Book Review: Between the Lives - Jessica Shirvington (Spoiler free)

I just finished this AMAZING story last night, and wow, it is brilliant. I actually bought the book on 'special' a few years ago. It was something I just had to pick up at the shop and I started reading it, I really loved the concept, but I put it down for some reason.
I was recently going through my bookshelves and decided to pick up 'Between the lives' and finish it - so I did!

This young adult novel tells the story of Sabine, a girl who is literally living two lives. Every 24 hours at midnight, Sabine 'shifts' into her other life, living each day twice. Although both of her lives are different, Sabine remembers everything from both lives and takes nothing with her, but her memories when she crosses back and forth.

This book is actually life changing. It really made me think and bought tears to my eyes (I never, I mean never cry in books...) The story was very well written and even some of the gory parts made my stomach turn! (Always a tick in my 'book' because then I know I am fully in the now and taking in the story!)

Sabine's two lives were a little more 'common' than I liked. In one life, Sabine 'has it all,' 'glamorous friends, designer wardrobe' .... and then I lost interest in the idea of her life in that world. I guess its because I don't tend to crave those kinds of things, but I think it was a little deeper than that. A lot of stories (especially based in America) have this 'perfection' concept being such material things and I kind of get bored reading about the details of that. In Sabine's other life, her family doesn't have a lot of money and her friends are considered rebels.... Yes two very different concepts, but I just think that the lives were a little predictable. However, as I kept reading, I found that I grew to like the way Sabine held herself in each life.

The book flowed nicely and was quite easy to read, chapters were short and the book is only 330 pages, so it was an easy read in technical terms.

This story didn't need to be long. I felt all kinds of emotions while reading. I felt like my life was great and could only get better. I felt like I was lucky! I wouldn't really say that there was a huge plot twist, but I didn't totally know what to expect either. I loved this book, a story that makes me think is certainly worth reading and I am sure I will read it again!

Thanks for reading,
